Epic Seven CR Check: Combat Readiness and Speed Tuning

CR is Combat Readiness, Epic Seven's turn bar: each unit fills from 0 to 100%, Speed sets how fast it fills, and the first unit to reach 100% acts. A CR check means comparing where units sit on that bar to see who is faster. Starting CR has a small random variance, so keep at least 5 to 10 Speed between your own units if their order matters.

What Combat Readiness Is

Every unit sits on a Combat Readiness bar. When a unit's CR reaches 100% it takes a turn, and after acting its icon moves down the bar at a rate based on its Speed. Speed is therefore how often you act, not just who acts first.

The gaps add up over a fight. A 200 Speed unit fills its bar about 10% faster than a 182 Speed unit, and after a few cycles that difference becomes an extra turn. Manipulating CR lets a team lap the enemy or stop foes from acting at all.

Starting CR and Speed Gaps

The opening turn order is not a pure Speed sort. The game applies a small random variance to starting CR, which community guides estimate at about ±5%. Two units within 5 Speed of each other can swap order, while units 5 to 10 apart usually keep the order you want.

That is why speed tuners warn against clustering your team at identical speeds. Give the unit that must move first 6 to 8 extra Speed rather than 1 or 2, and leave a 10 Speed gap when a skill must not fire early.

  • Under 5 Speed apart: order can flip
  • 5–10 Speed apart: order usually holds
  • 10+ Speed apart: safe for critical openers

Checking CR During a Fight

After the first turn, CR movement is deterministic relative to Speed. If your 280 Speed opener acts and the enemy is already at 95%, they were very close to your Speed. If they act first and your unit is still around 80%, they are much faster. Reading these numbers is the basic CR check.

Remember that lobby Speed is not battle Speed. Imprints, artifact Speed, such as Lisette's ring at Speed 20, and team Speed buffs all change the real numbers, so check the battle values before trusting a tune.

CR Push Versus CR Reduction

Skills that increase an ally's CR always land, but skills that reduce an enemy's CR can be resisted. Bosses like Wyvern often ignore CR reduction. Hunt teams therefore rely on ally pushes and dual attacks, while RTA teams also use reduction to delay enemies.

Many skills and items change CR. Boss Arunka gains 20% CR when attacked in the front row, the Reversal set adds 50% CR on revive, and the new artifact A Boss's Dignity raises CR after the wearer is attacked if not debuffed. Aube's first skill reduces an enemy's CR by 20%.

Tuning for Hunts and RTA

Hunts are a CR-push fight, not a drag race. Wyvern 13 is commonly quoted at about 196 Speed before buffs, and many teams keep damage dealers below the boss so it walks into dual attacks. Breakers need Effectiveness more than extra Speed, because a missed defense break costs more than a slower turn.

RTA and Arena open as a speed contest, where the first action decides whether your strip or extra turn happens. After that, CR pushers and extra turns can let a slower team win. See our RTA guide for drafting.

Getting More Speed

Speed comes mostly from gear. Creator Suspect Amy shows that a Speed set with about 10 Speed on each piece already puts a hero over 250 Speed. Weapons, helmets and armor are the easiest slots for 20+ Speed rolls, and the Labyrinth gives a strong Speed weapon each month.

Farm Speed sets from Wyvern and keep every piece with Speed substats until you check it. Our builds guide covers gear, and the damage calculator guide links tools with a Speed Tuner.

Common CR Mistakes

The most common mistake is putting three units within a few points of each other, such as 221, 220 and 219, and expecting a fixed order. With starting variance, that is a coin flip. Another is putting Attack boots on a unit that must move first.

Also retune after every gear swap. Moving one Speed boot to a new hero can break a Hunt team or an RTA opener, and imprints or new artifacts can quietly change your gaps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Speed matter in Hunts?

Yes, but Hunts reward planned CR pushes and placing damage dealers below the boss's Speed, not simply maximum Speed.

Where do I get Speed gear?

Mainly from Wyvern Hunt, plus a strong Speed weapon from the Labyrinth each month.

What does CR mean in Epic Seven?

Combat Readiness, the turn bar. The first unit to reach 100% acts, and Speed determines how fast the bar fills.

How much Speed gap do I need?

At least 5 Speed so starting variance does not swap units, and 10 or more when the order is critical.

Can CR reduction be resisted?

Yes. Ally CR increases always land, but enemy CR reduction can be resisted, and bosses like Wyvern often ignore it.
